Idiom: To be (as) cool as a cucumber

This is one of my favourite idioms. To be as cool as a cucumber means to keep calm in a situation in which most people are stressed or worried such as exams, giving a speech in public, or meeting people for the first time etc..

Let’s have a look at some examples:

  • Her boss is as cool as a cucumber every time he talks in public. If I were him, I’d be very nervous.

Meaning/ Explanation: her boss is very calm and relaxed in that situation

  • James was cool as a cucumber when we had an accident and a flat tyre. I guess it wasn’t the first time it happened to him.

Meaning/Explanation: James acted calmly in a difficult situation such a car accident and a flat tyre. He know very well what to do.

Question time:

How about you? Do you remember a stressful situation in which you were cool as a cucumber? Do you have any friends that are usually cool as a cucumber in difficult moments.

AND LASTLY, don’t forget to cut some cucumber in your salad. Yum Yum!!
