SALT. Optics teamed up with Black Bear Brand to bring you this beautifully handcrafted Horween Leather eye glass case. Black Bear Brand is a 100-year-old clothing brand that has been resurrected by Josh Sirlin. A focus on craftsmanship and using the finest materials to create bespoke clothing items that are works of art while being built to last the test of time. For this collaborative project, we chose to work with one of the oldest leather tanneries in the USA, Horween. Horween Leather is sought for it's remarkable quality and is made in small quantities to maintain the highest grade of leather available.~ More about HORWEEN leather: Marine Field aka “Flesh Out Retan” leather.  In 1940 the US government asked the Horween Tannery to develop a leather for the Marine Field shoe. The Horween Tannery experimented and worked on the manufacturing of this special leather and submitted it to the Quarter Master Dept. of the U.S. Marine Corps. In 1942 out of all the special leathers submitted, the Horween “Marine Field” leather was selected as the exclusive leather for the marine field boot. Towards the end of 1942, the army found its service shoe upper leather unsatisfactory and also adopted the Marine Field boot and used it under the name “Flesh Out Retan” leather.
